Learning how to start a WordPress blog website can turn into an opportunity to make extra income online. If you were looking for a place where you could lay down your thoughts and feelings, then starting a blog is a good starting point. It allows you to write interesting topics. You might be surprised at how people will start appreciating them.
Blogging does not have any special requirement for entry. Of course, if you lack passion then you are out of luck. It all depends on writing about a topic that you love. Remember, as moments pass by, your hobby might as well be rewarding.
Some people may be in panic sometimes. After all the internet is full of bloggers, they wonder if they could make it, amid all that traffic there are many reasons for you to start a blog. Yours may be unique, and if not, you may be offering fantastic content. One major advantage of the internet is its ability to have a wide coverage. In this tutorial I will show you how to start a blog with step-by step instructions and you will learn about:
- Web hosting plans and options.
- Choosing a domain.
- Setting up WordPress
Choosing A Web Host
First step is choosing the right web host company. There are a number of web hosting companies you can use to host your website. For example you can use Bluehost or SiteGround. I will go in detail how to setup your website with each web hosting provider. If you need help deciding which web host is best for you, read our comparison of the top web host providers.
Creating a WordPress Blog with Bluehost
Step 1: Go to Bluehost.com
Once at Bluehost homepage click “get started now,” you’ll be taken to a page to select the hosting plan of your choice.
Step 2: Choose Website Hosting Plan
Step 3: Pick a Domain Name
If you are picking a domain name for your business, try picking a name that matches your company name. Most domains end with .com, .org or .net. Try sticking with one of these instead of weird extensions.
Step 4: Fill In Your Details
To create your account, enter in your personal information on this page. There is also an option to add in your business name.
Add in your first name, last name, country, street address, city, zip code, phone number, and email address. Your receipt will be sent to the email address you enter here.
Then, enter in your package information to complete registration. Domain Privacy Protection is only $0.99 cents more per month, and this keeps your personal information under wraps such as your name and address. If you want to keep your personal info private go ahead and check that box.
Step 5: Fill in Payment Info
Step 6: Create a Password
Once paid and registered, you will be able to create your password.
Step 7: Installing WordPress
- Log in to your hosting account.
- Go to your control panel.
- Look for the “WordPress” or “Website” icon.
- Choose the domain where you want to install your website.
- Click the “Install Now” button and you will get access to your new WordPress website.
Once WordPress is finished installing you are all set and good to go!
Creating a WordPress Blog with Siteground
Step 1: Choose a Web Hosting Plan
Over at SiteGround as you can see we have 3 different web hosting plans to choose from. We have the Startup, the GrowBig, and the GrowGreek. The higher up you go the more features and increased performance you get. For example if you go from the Startup to the GrowBig you get a feature known as super cacher for great speed. And If you go from the GrowBig to GoGreek you get more web space and are capable of handling more monthly visitors.
I would recommend if possible going with the GrowBig or GoGreek because it gives you the option to host multiple websites. With the Startup plan you only have 1 website and your limited to that single website.
Step 2: Choose a Domain
The next step is to choose a domain. The domain or url is like GoodPocketChange.com. It is basically going to be your website name. Once you find a domain that is available click proceed to move on to step 3.
If your domain is available it will take you to the next page and tell you congratulations your domain is available. Fill out your information here and fill out your payment information.
After you fill out the above information scroll down to the bottom where it says purchase information and here is where we get to choose the length of the term of our web hosting.
One cool thing that site ground offers that other web hosting sites do not offer is that you can choose your data center based on which location is closest to you in proximity to ensure that you get reliable service from your servers.
Usually when you purchase hosting it is bought in annual installments and you pay for it all at once instead of monthly. SiteGround gives you the option to do a 1 month trial but I don’t recommend it because it is a bit more expensive. Go for at least the 12 month plan because it gives you time to commit yourself to your website and expand it.
As for the extras I recommend the domain privacy protection. This just hides your who is personal information if someone was to look up your domain.
Last thing now to do is click pay now to complete your order.
Once the order successfully goes through you will be taken to a thank you page where you will click proceed to the customer area.
When you first start you will get a new message saying welcome to the site ground account setup wizard. You can click “thanks I don’t need help” because I will be walking you through step by step on how to install and get started with WordPress. Click that and hit proceed and that should take us to our dashboard.
Step 3: Set Up WordPress
Once you get into the main dashboard to install WordPress, go into my accounts and then to cPanel here at the top. Hit proceed.
cPanel is like a universal dashboard that many of the top web hosts use. To install WordPress all we have to do is scroll down to where it says WordPress tools and then you see WordPress installer. This is a WordPress 1 click installer. Click onto that to be taken to next page. Then click onto the blue install button.
Choose the domain you want to install WordPress on and its protocol “http” or “https”. Scroll down to the site settings where you can specify the name of your blog and site description.
And then you scroll down to this admin account. Now this is very important make sure you write down your admin username and password because once we download WordPress we are going to need this to login the first time.
Scroll down to the bottom you can skip everything else and click install when you are ready to go.
After clicking install it will display a progress bar, once it is done WordPress will be installed.
What you want to do next is click on this admin URL which will take you to the WordPress login. This will be the page you go to all the time to get to the back end of your website so it would be a good idea to bookmark it.
Now take your username and password that you wrote down and saved before the install and copy and paste it into this page and then click login.
Once you successfully login you will be taken to the WordPress dashboard. Welcome to WordPress. This will be the first thing you see every time logging into WordPress, this page basically summarizes your website and also includes latest updates and news from WordPress. You have successfully set up your blog and can now begin blogging! Congrats!

If you have experience with web design service provider. I want to launch new website in multi niche and services, like coupons, offers, store directory mobile comparison and blogging as well and i want some design services to customise my website. Actually design is not an easy job. Because normally designers add such graphics which shows the complete story or theme of your website in a single image or logo, this thing looks interesting but believe me, its not so easy. You are thinking, why I have such kind of thinking. Its simplest answer is that, once i had started learning graphics designing, after starting it, i came to know that its not as easy as i was considering. Anyways, i have a plan to start an affiliate coupons website, for this purpose, i want to hire RevGlue as you can read here revglue.com/bespoke its a uk based registered company but i am little bit confused while using their services as its a new born company. Anyone, have experience with this company, if yes than please share with me. Thanks
Thanks Alex! I appreciate you taking the time to visit my website. I agree web design doesn’t isn’t an easy job for everyone. What I could recommend is outsourcing web design to a freelancer that you can hire on sites like UpWork.com or Fiverr.com. I like your idea about creating an affiliate coupons website I think you should totally pursue it! That would be a great way to make some money online! I have not heard of RevGlue before but thanks for sharing their link. I will look into them and check them out. Thanks!
